Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation planning process should commence during the project planning phase, as rehabilitation can require the storage of suitable material, or substantial earthworks that become more expensive if they are not planned for.  Significant liabilities can accrue that may be avoided with suitable planning and management processes.  Making the right decisions can be made simple when the implications are able to be identified and quantified.

Preston Consulting provides rehabilitation services to enable industry to continue to improve their performance in this area.

We can provide:

  • Early identification of key issues and risks to successful rehabilitation
  • Risk assessment and management
  • Cost estimation and provisioning
  • Integration of rehabilitation management plans into Life of Mine plans
  • Rehabilitation management systems
  • Rehabilitation advice and supervision of sub-contractors

We can also assess soils, land capability, irrigation and alternative agricultural opportunities for rehabilitation.  Rehabilitation in the Pilbara is currently not meeting the general expectations of regulators and can benefit from a review of approach and constraints.  In addition, changes to the way pastoral leases are managed and operated are likely to drive changes in expectations for post-mining land use.  Our experience and understanding of the environment and the capabilities of different forms of mining enables us to provide practical, economical and commercial rehabilitation reviews and advice.

Preston Consulting has teamed up with Carey Mining Pty Ltd (Carey) to provide a full “cradle to grave” rehabilitation service.  We provide pre-project planning, approvals and management plans, access to tertiary institutions to complete trial work, land clearing, grubbing and soil preservation to set your project up so that it can be cost-effectively rehabilitated.  Integrating rehabilitation with project planning will minimise your overall costs.  Detailed rehabilitation and closure plans are then used to guide the rehabilitation to the required outcome.  Carey operators provide the skill and dedicated workforce to implement the rehabilitation works with strong indigenous linkages.  Preston Consulting then provides monitoring and reporting services to see the works completed to the required standards.

This combines the unique skills and attributes of two key companies: Preston Consulting with their experience in rehabilitation, project closure and project management, and Carey, who already provide mining contract and rehabilitation services to some of the world’s top resource companies such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, AngloGold Ashanti Australia Limited and Fortescue Metals Group Limited.
