Environment

  • Preparing documentation to obtain environmental approvals, permits, and licenses, such as Ministerial Approval, EPBC Act approvals, Native Vegetation Clearing Permits, Works Approvals and Licences, Mining Proposals and Mine Closure Plans.
  • Provide guidance on relevant environmental laws and regulations, including the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) (EP Act), Mining Act 1978 (WA) and the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth).
  • Scope and undertake environmental impact assessments to assess potential environmental effects, including those to flora, fauna, marine, water, air, greenhouse gas, social surroundings and matters of national environmental significance.
  • Communication and submission of documents to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, the Environmental Protection Authority, Department of Climate Change, Energy the Environment and Water and other government bodies.
  • Development and obtaining approval of Environmental Management Plans outlining strategies to mitigate, monitor, and manage environmental impacts.
  • Provide assistance in responding to any appeals or reviews related to environmental approvals or compliance issues.
  • Development of Environmental Management Plans outlining strategies to mitigate, monitor, and manage environmental impacts.
  • Identify and develop mitigation strategies for environmental risks associated with a project.
  • Design and assess Environmental Management Systems including ISO 14001 certification

  • Develop strategies for soil remediation, re-vegetation, and the re-establishment of native ecosystems in alignment with pre-mining conditions or approved land use objectives.
  • Undertake mine closure costing to inform resource allocation to enable rehabilitation and compliance with mine closure obligations.
  • Develop post-closure environmental monitoring programs to assess the success of rehabilitation efforts and ensure long-term environmental stability, including regular reporting to regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and submit reports to DEMIRS and DWER on closure progress, rehabilitation success, and compliance with closure objectives and regulatory obligations.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with mine closur
  • Advise on post mining land use options, which may include transitioning to agriculture, conservation areas, or other sustainable uses.
  • Lead and undertake internal and external auditing and compliance investigations to satisfy company requirements and legal obligations
  • Conduct environmental site audits and inspections during construction, operations and closure to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental controls, assess compliance with regulations, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform environmental management system audits on behalf of Conformity Assessment Bodies or Certification Bodies
  • Assess an organization’s environmental management system against the ISO 14001:2015 requirements in the role of a lead auditor
  • Prepare compliance obligation registers and evidence gathering and reporting schedules to ensure compliance obligations satisfied.
  • Gap analysis and desktop assessments to identify survey requirements and scope investigations.
  • Plan and implement environmental surveys and studies including assessment of biodiversity, vegetation, water quality, or air emissions, to meet regulatory or project-specific requirements.
  • Identification and management of sub consultants who specialise in conducting surveys in relevant areas like flora, fauna, soil, or water resources.
  • Survey scheduling to account for seasonal changes in environmental conditions (e.g., wet and dry seasons) and target species requirements meet relevant guidelines.
  • Implement Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and other mapping technologies to capture, analyse, and visualise environmental data.
  • Ensure proper data collection, management, and analysis protocols are followed, maintaining accuracy, consistency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Review detailed reports outlining survey findings, methodologies used, and any recommendations for environmental management or mitigation. Ensure these reports meet regulatory reporting standards.
  • Review, engage with and adapt to updates and reforms in environmental legislation and guidelines.
  • Identification of significant residual impacts of a Project requiring offsets
  • Quantify the scale of offsets required to counterbalance the impacts of a Project
  • Identify potential offset options under both State and Commonwealth legislation.
  • Prepare of Offset Strategies and Offset Management Plans.
  • Negotiation with EPA and DCCEEW regarding adequacy of proposed offsets
