BCI Minerals is developing the Mardie Salt Project, a high-quality salt and sulphate of potash production and export facility located in Mardie, approximately 80 km southwest of Karratha in the western Pilbara region of WA. The Mardie Salt Project will utilise seawater to produce 5.35 million tonnes of salt every year, making it the largest approved solar salt project in Australia, and the third largest globally.  Salt projects raise many complex and unique environmental challenges of which Preston Consulting has been at the forefront of understanding pathways to address.

Preston Consulting has been closely involved in the Mardie Salt Project since 2018 and has supported BCI Minerals by identifying and managing many of the baseline environmental studies, the provision of project planning advice, and preparation of various approval documents. In particular, Preston Consulting prepared key EIA documents for the Mardie Project and the Optimised Mardie Project under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth).

Mardie Minerals has since received approval from the State and Commonwealth governments to develop the Mardie Project (2021) and the Optimised Mardie Project (2024). Preston Consulting continues to provide BCI Minerals with advice, project planning services and assistance in the preparation of approvals documents.
